 Social media is a very important part of marketing because of todays generation. Almost everyone has social media in todays age and it is such a big part of many generations lives. With the adaptation of social media, Instagram for example, went from a place for sharing photos and videos to a platform for businesses to advertise and sell their products, for people to share important information and a platform for many people to express themselves. Due to these change, having a social media presence is an important part of advertisement because you are able to reach so many people within one social media platform. 

1- engagement

    Audiences want to connect with who they are following on social media and feel like they are involved. when someone is engaged on social media, their audience wants to keep up with them, especially if they are living an exciting life (example of why people follow the Kardashians, even though they do not have any real talents).

2- tell a story

    Once again, audiences want to feel like they are a part of something somewhat exclusive, for example, posting a behind the scenes shot of a movie or TV you've starred in will make your audience feel like they are a part of something special. This is because they are able to see the making of their favourite movie or song. This also connects the artist to the audience, people love to see their favourite celebrity as a 'real' person, doing real life things and not just watching an incredible music video.

3- promote 

    Using social media to promote their music/tour/merchandise is a great way to reach out to fans that already follow you as well as to find new people. By posting a cool engaging picture that promotes the album, merch or tour as well as adding a snippet of one of their songs is a great way to get the audience excited for the launch. 

this post is promoting a new jewelry collection so that my followers can match me. followers love to copy and imitate their favourite celebrities style so by launching a line of jewelry and posting this type of picture, i am promoting my product in a way that my target audience will enjoy.
